Pie Anyone?

This past week at school, we had a reading competition. The class that read the most minutes was able to choose four teachers to participate in a
PIE EATING CONTEST!
When I heard about this, I just knew that
I HAD TO BE ONE OF THE TEACHERS!!

I went to some of the younger classes and let them know how excited I was to do this activity. JUST IN CASE WE DID NOT WIN!

Well, when all was said and done, my class lost (tear, tear) to Mrs. Goebel's class! We only lost by a couple of hours too! Gosh, darn! But, it was all good in the end, because those cute little 2nd graders came through and chose ME to participate!!!!!!!

I was STOKED! This was my very first PIE EATING CONTEST!
Right before it started I noticed there were almonds on the top of my pie..
I can not eat nuts--if I do...I might DIE!
Carla (the secretary) and I sat there and picked all of them off!

Of course, they told us three seconds before the contest started...
NO HANDS!
When they said GO -- I dove in...
Only to get WHIP CREAM up my nose...
Which meant, I could not BREATHE for the rest of the contest!
It was much harder than what I thought....
But so much
FUN!
Mrs. Goebel won!
The rest of us decided we needed to put the rest of our PIES in her FACE!
CLASSIC!
This is why I LOVE being a teacher!

Floors and other improvements

This weekend...Andrew's mom and dad came up to spend a little quality time with us. That quality time consisted of Dad Walker helping Andrew with the kitchen floors!
They look so wonderful!
Then he cut all of the trim for the living/dining room!
While cutting the tile, he accidentally cut our table...it is okay! We still love him!
He felt so bad about the table he bought us a vanity light and installed it for us. You can cut our table whenever you want!
Coming in and out of the attic is so much fun!

Look at our brand new light! Doesn't it look great! Thanks Dad Walker!
NOW...this is an OLD pic of our living room. We got new fans. We were sick of the old ones. We were tired of looking at the GOLD trim....
This is what our living room looks like at the present time. Andrew installed the new fans we bought, but then we realized it was TOO much for that small space. So, we are going to install it above our dining room table and put a dome light in the Living room. We have two fans, so one is going to go in our bedroom as well! It is going to look HOT!

Can't wait till all of this renovation is completed. It will be nice, but it won't be for a while.
We just realized we will need to paint our floors a couple more coats. Someday we will have our home back to normal and it will be a glorious time!

Buttons, Buttons, You Gotta Love Buttons

This pail, pictured above makes me HAPPY!
It is found at Porters--
You get to fit as many buttons as you can into a bag....
and then only pay
ONE DOLLAR
for them all!
(And it is also just fun running your hand through all of the buttons!)
Today, I got to pick out ONE more DOLLAR worth of buttons.
What does one dollar worth of buttons look like......
(pictured below)

Now that is a lot of buttons!
What is your favorite button in the bunch....
LEAVE A COMMENT AND LET ME KNOW!

Now where do all of these buttons go...now that they are in my home?
MY BUTTON JAR OF COURSE!
I got it last summer at an Estate Sale and have been collecting buttons ever since.
I feel like such a cool WIFE now that I have a BUTTON JAR!
Here it sits. Next to our sewing machine...
helping me look very domestic!

New things in our Home

Our floors are not the ONLY things that are new in our home!
I can not believe I did not blog about this Giraffe the second I got it!
For Christmas this year, Mom Uminski got us all some pretty fun things!
Unfortunately, at the time of Christmas, this was on back order.
My family thought it was pretty funny that something like this
was on back order. It is suppose to act as toilet paper holder.
Well, one normal day here in Ashton, turned quickly into a WONDERFUL
day when we went to the PO Box and there was a KEY in it.
For those of you who don't know what the KEY stands for....
it means you HAVE a package! A Package. We never have a PACKAGE!
What a glorious feeling it is to receive a PACKAGE! It doesn't happen very
much, but when it does....oh how wonderful! I basically skipped over to the
box that had our package in it. When I pulled it out,
I knew exactly what it was...MY GIRAFFE! I love this Giraffe.
For those of you who do not know,
I LOVE GIRAFFES!
This one is really nice. Almost too nice to put into a bathroom to hold toilet
paper. As of right now, it is a decoration in our home. We have a Texas
Bathroom and a giraffe really does not go. It is very unlikely you would
find a giraffe in Texas (only in a zoo) I love it!
Thanks Mom and Dad
for such a wonderful gift!

OLD FAUCET
NEW FAUCETA couple months after moving into our home,
our old faucet started to leak. Andrew fixed it with plumbers tape,
but then it started to leak again after another few months.
This meant we had to get a new faucet. Finally Andrew found one
for a really good deal. It looks like the old one,
just MUCH nicer. It stretches out more over the sink and the sprayer
matches the faucet. That is a big deal! Anyways, I like the new faucet.
Good job Andrew!
Oh look at our cute little butter dish! It matches so perfectly in our kitchen!
We found it at T.J. Max Home Goods. I love it!

PAINTING and SPRING BREAK WEATHER

We are ready to PAINT!
The first coat went down Friday night at about 7:00 PM.
We then went and stayed at the Schauerhamer's home.
They are out of town, but they gave us free reign to their home.
Which is a good thing, cause otherwise we would have had to sleep in the garage!
Margie volunteered herself to do the trim!
What was she thinking??
The first coat is going down!
The last little bit left to paint!
After the first coat!

Today, Saturday, we woke up and headed over to our house for the second coat. This is what the weather looked like outside. Is it really April 3rd? Am I really on SPRING BREAK? At the bottom of this post you can see the video of what it looked like as we drove to and from our home. Crazy weather!!!
Andrew just had his shorts on from painting, so he was a bit cold outside!

We had to go in through the backdoor. Yesterday when we left our house after the first coat, you could see a TON of grass. I guess not so much anymore. The snow was up to my knees, yet again! After the SECOND coat
Luckily, we were able to get in and paint!

Now to go back to the Schauerhamer's in that crazy weather.
Needless to say, we are going to stay there for the rest of the weekend. They have always wanted us to sleep over and now we are. Unfortunately, they are not here to play board games with us ALL night! Maybe next snow storm....in MAY!

More than One today!

Make sure to scroll ALL the way down...

There is more than ONE new posts for today....

April Fool's
Floors Part TWO
Spelling Bee and Birthday
St. Patty's Day!

Good thing I am on Spring Break and I am able to CATCH UP!

Read and ENJOY

April Fool's Day!

Andrew and I got FOOLED this year!
Let's tell you the story!

Margie had Parent Teacher Conferences today so she didn't get home until after 6. When Andrew came home he went straight to the sink and turned on the water. He got a really nice SPRAY from our water sprayer. He automatically thought that I had done that to play a prank on him (it didn't help my case that when he googled pranks, that was the first one that came up, of course that is what Margie is going to do!) So he quickly went to my water bottle and put, cayenne pepper, mint extract and vinegar in it. That way when I drank some in the middle of the night, I would get the shock of a lifetime. (YUCK!) Well, right after parent teacher conferences we went straight to Play practice. We didn't have much time to be at home at all! I had no idea what happened to Andrew with the water or what was in MY water. It wasn't until after Play practice that we started to get REALLY fooled.

When we came home from practice at 9:15 we went to get something to eat. Andrew made himself an English muffin. When he opened up the silverware drawer this is what he found.......

I was stunned. I looked at him and blamed him for the missing silverware! "Andrew where is the silverware? Where did you put it?" He had no idea. Then we went to the our OTHER drawers and this is what we found.....I didn't believe him for a little bit. We went back and forth and kept asking eachother where our utensils were. Ah, man! After a little bit, and after searching all of other drawers and cupboards to see if anything else was missing, we decided it was NOT either one of us and it came from an OUTSIDE source. Of course, our NUMBER one SUSPECTS were the SCHAUERHAMERS!

What sealed the deal was when Andrew asked me to turn on the water. I did, just like any trusting, obedient, dense wife would....I TURNED on the water. When I was just as shocked with the sudden spray of water he knew that was not my genius idea. He then did what any KIND husband would do and told me NOT to drink my water and what he put inside of it. Oh, goodness. The Schauerhamers got us good!

The night was not over here. We got into our car and went over to their home. When we got there we went ahead and drove their car over to their parent's house down the way. (They leave their keys in their car all of the time! Welcome to living in Ashton) After moving their car, we went into their house and exclaimed how their CAR was missing. They laughed and didn't believe us. Well it didn't help that I was laughing. Andrew told me....you have to stop laughing. I tried, but I really can't help it sometimes. Well, while Andrew was talking to the Schauerhamers in the back room, I was searching through the cupboards for our stuff.

Finally, after the invite to eat dinner over there everything was out in the open, but it was a bit awkward there for a bit. We all knew what was going on, but didn't want to say anything about it! After about ten minutes, we found out that our silverware was actually in THEIR car!!! The one we had JUST moved. Oh goodness.

It was a great April Fool's Day!
Good Job, Schauerhamers!!!

Way to get us!
But, you must know that it does not have to be
April Fool's Day to play pranks on you!

The Floors Step TWO

Time for SANDING!
Here is a BEFORE
Here is the AFTER!
Here is how we got there.
When I got home from school, Andrew was working hard on sanding. Now, remember that I was in my school clothes and the bedroom was all taped off. I could not get to any clothes that would allow me to get all sandy and dirty. So, of course, I thought, WELL I AM GOING OVER TO THE SCHAUERHAMERS! SEE YOU IN EIGHT HOURS!

I started to feel bad. So, I weighed out my options. In the garage I have FOUR tubs of DRESS-UP clothes. So, let's see what those tubs had to provide for me! Who would have thought that we had SUCH the perfect outfit for the JOB!

While Andrew sanded, I vacuumed! It was ever exciting!
This is Andrew pointing out that there are EIGHT layers of paint on these floors.

At the end of the night, Andrew let me use the sander. It was exciting!
Here are some close ups on our floor. It was rough. Have way through of sanding we realized it would take a LIFETIME to get these floors down to the RAW wood. At that moment we decided we were going to add one more layer of paint to these floors. Instead of staining, we are now going to PAINT!

At the end of the night we are ready to PAINT! Unfortunately we have to wait until the weekend! I am excited to see how these floors are going to turn out! Hopefully, by next week you will be able to see the final product as well!
