Our trip to Maine and Acadia Nat'l Park

Before we headed to Maine, we stopped in New York for a couple of days to spend time with Grammy, Andrew's grandma. But then on our way back from Maine we stopped there again for a couple more days. We decided to put all of our time in New York in one big post....so stay tune for that amazing post and proceed to this one....

On our way to Maine....VERMONT! The Green Mountain State. And that it definitely was!

We stopped by the birthplace of Joseph Smith! There is always such a special spirit at any of the church history sights. This one was not different in any way!

It was absolutely beautiful! We loved the inside of it as well!

Welcome to New Hampshire. The state of no sales tax.

But no worries they get around that in other ways....they may not be a sales tax, but there is an EAT IN tax!!!!

Here is Maine! We were a bit dissapointed in this state sign! LAME!

Oooooohhhh....more ice cream.
We don't know what it is, but the ice cream in the East is so much better....you can make whatever soft serve flavor you want. This here is German Chocolate!

Augusta, ME #28. We got there too late, so we couldn't go inside, but we still loved it here.

We made it.
Acadia National Park.
We spent a couple of days here with the most amazing tour guide ever.....our brother! DAVID!!!The first night there we camped out.

Margie got this zucchini in New York on the side of the road for FREE. She saved it and gave it to David to use in some of his cooking for the camp.

In the morning, Andrew could not get out of the tent because the zipper was stuck. He looks so sad.

David works at an Oceanography camp so he showed us around to all the cool things. We got to hold a SEA CUCUMBER!

This is at Sand Beach. The only natural sand beach in the park. All the other sand beaches have the sand brought in.

Andrew is a SEAWEED FOOT MONSTER!!!
One of David's favorite things to do is to look in tide pools. It soon became one of our favorite things too. Once we knew what we were looking for.

Ahhh....picking blueberries. That was so much fun! They were EVERYWHERE. David will do whatever it takes to get his hands on some blueberries!Hmmm....Right off the bush into your mouth! LOVE IT!

What a great thing to do as brother and sister...picking blueberries.

Then for the LOBSTER dinner. This was Margie's first experience at lobster and it definitely will not be her last. Thanks David for such an awesome treat!

It was kinda sad that the face was still attached....

Day two in the park started with the sunrise. We went up to Cadillac Mountain, which is the first place that sees the sun in the United States. BEAUTIFUL!

After the sunrise, Andrew and Margie went to eat breakfast at this cute little restaurant while David went and prepared breakfast for his little campers.

We also went on a nice stroll on the shore. It was so peaceful and gorgeous.

Andrew really wanted to get up on the rock...and he did!
We went to the shark museum in Bar Harbor. This is a jaw bone of a Right Whale. It was really big.
Then we picked up David and headed out to a light house. We have fallen in love with light houses. While we were hiking on these rocks, Margie broke her flip flop. She hiked barefoot for a little bit and then she wore Andrew's shoes till we got back to the car.

We then went to another place and looked around in the tide pools. David found a little crab.
So did Andrew...but his was dead. We named it little Crabby. They were friends.
Next stop...the amazing gardens. Thula Gardens.

Then Andrew and I went and picked some more blueberries, while David went and ran some errands for the camp.

When we met back up we went to our last stop in Acadia National Park. Sea Anemone

Cave. You can only get to it during low tide. But it was something amazing! We were very glad we stopped in to see the beauty. This is one of David's favorite places.

It was really sad to have to say good-bye to such a beautiful part of the country. We can definitely see why David loves to go up there each summer. If only we could go every summer, we would.

BOSTON

Even though we have a great GPS Margie always made sure we were heading in the right direction.

She is our navigator and we stayed on course the whole time.

This is the north bridge Paul Revere crossed to warn the people that the redcoats were coming. We spent several hours in Concord & Lexington and learned much of our great minute men and their sacrifice that lead to our freedom.

The Boston Uminski's. What a blast it was to be with them all. Uncles Steve and Lenny had us on the floor laughing. They are indeed the brothers of Tony. No doubt. Aunt Felicia was kind enough to let us crash at her place. It was a great reunion.

Our personal tour guide, he is "the" Paul Revere. We met him inside the State Building and ran into him again outside. He let us know that he is the reincarnated Paul Revere. So it was a great treat for us to have had a private tour of Boston by one of our founding fathers.

Bunker Hill. Many men died here defending our country and Margie almost died here climbing the 294 steps to the top. Don't worry, just as the men conquered their enemies Margie conquered the steps and made it to the top.

We will miss the Uminski's of Boston. But fear not we will return. We'll grab our kakis and get into our ka and make the trip back as soon as we can!

CAPE COD

We continued our journey east. We have been attempting to get a picture in front of all the state welcome signs we can but have quickly learned this is not as easy as one might think.

We actually got this Connecticut sign on our way out of the state. There was no sign greeting us as we came in. We know that sounds absurd but wait till we get to Maine.
Welcome to Rhode Island. We went up and down this road several times. Rhode Island was another state we had to get on the way out. There was too much construction when we entered the state. So we went in and out of Massachusetts 4 or 5 times before we found this state sign.

I LOVE CAPE COD. I was so glad I had the opportunity to share one of my favorite places with Margie. It was a blast. I spent every summer growing up on the Cape. So many memories, I loved sharing that with Margie and making new ones as well.

Of course I had to take her to the General Store and stock up on candy.

I have taken several pictures by this boy over the years. Thought I should add another.
We made it to the ocean and stepped into the water at Craigville beach. It was a beautiful day and even better water.
We went to Nobska Lighthouse. Our first lighthouse of many this trip. They are such beautiful and almost magical places.
We went to Falmouth and saw the Hyannis Sound. For those of you who don't know they are the best A Capella group ever. And they put on an amazing show.
We slept the night out on the Chatham beach. It was amazing. What a great place.
The next day we made our way towards Boston and stopped in to see the rock at Plymouth. It's definitely a rock.
This is the Mayflower II A replica of the Mayflower. Plymouth was ok, but can't hold a candle to the Freedom Trail which was our next stop on our Road Trip of amazingness.
